Candidate Guidelines

The following guidelines apply to all candidates running for an Executive Board position. 

  1. Candidates will provide a campaign statement and photo to the Elections Committee that will be included on the Election Candidates webpage.
  2. Candidates can create an optional video statement.
    1. Files must not exceed 150 MB. Video files must be MP4, WMV or AVI format. Candidates can provide a link to a Google Drive for the video if preferred; however, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure the content is accessible.
  3. Candidates will post their statement and video in the Elections Forum.
    1. Text should be pasted directly into the forum so that it is automatically translated. Attachments are not translated and candidates will be responsible for ensuring the statements are accessible to all members.
    2. Candidates must make sure that they are subscribed to the forum so that they receive activity notifications.
  4. Candidates shall only use the IACA designated Elections Forum to communicate with IACA members. This is to ensure that only members who opt to subscribe to election related content receives such information.
    1. Candidate information will be shared via a slider and designated webpage on the IACA website, as well as, posted by IACA to all IACA social media channels.
    2. Use of emails lists, cold calling, or sending direct messages to IACA members outside of the forums is strictly prohibited.
    3. Posting candidate materials and/or statements directly (or via supporters) on personal social media is not allowed.
    4. Candidates and/or supporters cannot create personal campaign websites (or re-purposed to display campaign information).
    5. All candidates will be temporarily removed from all IACA administrative access until after the election process concludes.
    6. Candidates may contact regional associations for endorsement or to remind members to take part in voting during IACA elections. Please note, regional associations operate independently of IACA and are not required to entertain such requests.
    7. Use of the IACA logo directly or in the background is not allowed.
    8. Candidates may not use pictures or video of other individuals.
  5. Campaigning in person at the 2025 IACA Annual Conference must adhere to the following:
    1. Campaigning during presentations at the IACA Conference is prohibited.
    2. You may visit the Elections Table to speak with attendees prior to sessions starting in the morning/during breaks/after sessions end for the day.
    3. There will a formal meet and greet for candidates.
    4. The Elections Committee will offer additional opportunities for Q&A and/or debate via virtual options to share at conference.
    5. No campaign/candidate swag/merchandise/pop-up shops/etc. to be handed-out, worn, shared, etc. at the IACA Conference.
  6. Candidates will follow the Code of Conduct, and will treat each other, the Elections Committee, and all other IACA volunteers with respect and professionalism.

  7. All candidates will be required to acknowledge the election guidelines. Failure to do so will result in their removal from the Elections process.
  8. Any guideline violation(s) will first be addressed by the Elections Chair. If the violation is severe or repetitive, it will result in the removal of the candidate from the Elections process. If you are unsure if something falls within the guideline(s) please ask.
