What to Expect After Registering for an IACA Online Class
You’re enrolled in a 12-week, asynchronous IACA class. This guide explains what happens before, during, and after your course so you can plan with confidence. Please read it carefully!
Before Your Class Begins
Each quarter follows a consistent schedule so you can plan ahead.
| Timeline | What Happens | What You Should Do |

Read the course information email carefully and log in to Moodle to verify access. |
| Class start date |

Introduce yourself and begin Week 1 activities. |
Tip: Messages go to the email you used for registration. Check spam or promotions if something is missing.
During the class
Our courses are asynchronous — there are no live sessions and no set meeting times. New materials open each Sunday, and you complete them when it fits your schedule.
Weekly Structure
- Plan for 3–5 hours per week on lessons, exercises, and your final project.
- The format is structured but flexible: new material each week; you choose when to complete it. Just remember that while due dates are flexible, you cannot bulk submit multiple weeks' work during the last week of class.
- Instructors post weekly guidance and may host optional Q&A forums.
What to Expect from Your Instructor
Your instructor is an experienced crime analyst (current or recently retired) who:
- Reviews assignments and the final project
- Provides feedback in a reasonable timeframe
- Available for questions via Moodle messaging/email
- Does not monitor your pace or remind you of deadlines — time management is your responsibility.
Participation & Professionalism
These are adult-level, professional training courses, not undergraduate classes. You are expected to:
- Take responsibility for meeting deadlines and completing assignments.
- Communicate proactively if issues arise.
- Participate respectfully and professionally in discussions.
Review our Participation Policy and the Student Code of Conduct. Please note that students cannot use AI to complete their work.
If you fall behind, you can request a transfer to a later session rather than remain in a class you cannot complete.
Grading (Pass/Fail)
- All classes use a Pass/Fail grading system (no letter grades). Instructors have outlined the passing percentage for each class in the course details.
- To pass, complete all required assignments and the final project.
- You will be notified of your result whether you pass or fail.
- Instructors may offer written feedback, but scores are not numerical.
After the Class Ends
| Timeframe | What Happens |
| Within 10 days of course closing |
Instructor finishes grading and submits completion records to IACA. |
| After grading is finalized |
You receive an email confirming your pass/fail status and completion details. |
| Within 4 weeks of class end |
Certificates and CEUs are processed and sent. |
Certificates & CEUs
- IACA Members: Completion appears in your member CEU record automatically; you can request a PDF certificate if desired.
- Non-Members: A PDF Certificate of Completion is emailed once the course is finalized.
If you don’t receive your completion email within four weeks of the class ending, contact [email protected].
Moodle Access
- For new students, Moodle accounts are created using the email you registered with the week before the class starts.
- If you’ve taken a class before, your same Moodle account will be used again, so you will not get a new invitation from Moodle.
- Your Moodle username can be found in your member profile on the IACA website once the Moodle account is created for you.
- Password reset links are available on the Moodle login page.
Need Help?
If you need to transfer, update contact information, or withdraw before your class begins, email [email protected]. Keep an eye on iaca.net/online-classes for new course listings each quarter.
