OSINT Techniques for Crime Analysts & Real-Time Intelligence

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) has become an essential capability for crime analysts and Real-Time Intelligence Centers supporting investigations, threat monitoring, and situational awareness. In this two-hour Lunch & Learn session, Kirby Plessas will demonstrate practical OSINT techniques analysts can use to identify, collect, and analyze information from social media and other publicly available sources. The session will focus on investigative and analytical workflows, including refining search strategies, locating and verifying social media accounts, correlating information across platforms, and extracting investigative value from online content. Kirby will also discuss emerging platform trends and how analysts can incorporate artificial intelligence tools into OSINT workflows while maintaining sound analytical tradecraft. This demonstration-driven session is designed for analysts working in law enforcement, fusion centers, and Real-Time Intelligence Centers who want practical techniques they can apply immediately to support investigations and intelligence products.
